eMAG counts on 100 million euro sales this year, up 56%The online store eMAG estimates it will have a turnover of 100 million euros this year, up 56% from 2009, when it registered a 12% drop of the indicator, to 64 million. "The figure we are targeting is very accessible, especially since January and February had a very good debut," the company's marketing director, Radu Apostolescu, said in a release. Among the factors that will support the sales growth are the company's financial stability and the performing information system, according to eMAG. "In 2010, the IT & C, electronics and home appliance retail market will register (…) a slight increase, by 10 percent, after last year's extremely severe correction. However, the online sector will see a pregnant rise, by 40%, mainly due to the natural growth caused by the higher rate of internet penetration and the consumers' migration to the online environment, as well as because of the maturation of the market players that will add value to the services provided and contribute to the increased confidence in online shopping," the release reads. This year, the company will open at least three showrooms, "in key locations with large geographical coverage," according to the cited source. In 2009, the company's four showrooms, in Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca and Ploiesti had sales of 25,000 euros / sqm. An important segment where eMAG aims growth this year is the corporate one. Last year, the company's turnover dropped by 12%, monthly sales oscillating from a 40% drop in May, to a 35% increase in December, compared to the similar months in 2008. "2009 was an atypical year, hardly predictable. (...). Under a dramatic 40% drop of the market where we operate, IT & C, electronics and home appliances retail, our overall result is good, as we managed to raise our market share and to make profit," said Apostolescu. The segment that recorded the highest sales is laptops and netbooks. The category with the largest increase was that of electronics, with about 2,000 LCD TVs sold per month at the end of the year.
