These companies are likewise requesting the establishment of a guarantee and lending fund for IT investments for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and public institutions, subsidies for IT infrastructure projects in the public sector, and the creation of a special commission dedicated to increasing the speed of valuating and signing of contracts for IT projects filed for structural funds. 'I think that, in the short-run, governmental acquisitions of IT products and services would be the most important support for the industry from the government, because, in the past few months, these have been completely stopped at governmental level, though Romania is very far from e-governing and reasonable information technology efficiency in administration,' the President of PcFun, Marius Ghenea, told Business Standard. Major players in the field said that simplifying the legal framework of public acquisitions is an indispensable measure for stimulating the local IT market. Furthermore, another important element is setting a clear government support strategy for the software exporting industry, given that this is one of the very few Romanian export products with significant added value. The IT sector can be considered of national importance, as IT is the development engine of every economy, said Irina Socol, General Manager of Siveco Romania.
